1. Prepare the subfloor: The subfloor of a gymnasium school floor has to be level, smooth, and free of debris. This may involve removing the existing flooring, such as tile or carpet.
2. Install a moisture barrier: Moisture can be a problem in gymnasiums as they are typically not heated so it is important to install a moisture barrier to prevent damage to the wood flooring. This may involve installing a vapor barrier or a moisture-resistant underlayment.
3. Install the flooring system: A gymnasium school floor typically consists of a wood subfloor, followed by a layer of foam cushioning, and then a wood surface layer. The wood surface layer can be made from a variety of woods, such as maple, oak, or birch.
4. Sand and finish the floor: Once the flooring system is installed, the surface layer is sanded to remove any roughness or bumps. The floor is then finished with a sealant or coating to protect the wood and enhance its appearance.
