Laying School gym floors and gymnasium floors in general is a specialized task that requires expertise in both flooring installation and sports flooring.

At Schoolgymfloors we typically adhere to the following general steps involved in laying a wooden gymnasium school floor:

1. Prepare the subfloor: The subfloor of a gymnasium school floor has to be level, smooth, and free of debris. This may involve removing the existing flooring, such as tile or carpet.

2. Install a moisture barrier: Moisture can be a problem in gymnasiums as they are typically not heated so it is important to install a moisture barrier to prevent damage to the wood flooring. This may involve installing a vapor barrier or a moisture-resistant underlayment.

3. Install the flooring system: A gymnasium school floor typically consists of a wood subfloor, followed by a layer of foam cushioning, and then a wood surface layer. The wood surface layer can be made from a variety of woods, such as maple, oak, or birch.

4. Sand and finish the floor: Once the flooring system is installed, the surface layer is sanded to remove any roughness or bumps. The floor is then finished with a sealant or coating to protect the wood and enhance its appearance.

5. Install court markings: For a gymnasium school floor, court markings for various sports will need to be added. This may include markings for basketball, volleyball, and 5-a-side Football.

6. Allow time to dry: The finish or sealant applied to the gymnasium school floor must be allowed to dry completely before the floor can be used.

It’s important to note that laying a wooden gymnasium school floor is a complex and specialized task that requires expertise in sports flooring. At Schoolgymfloors we have been fitting gymnasium flooring for over 20 years. It is very important you seek to speak to a sports flooring expert to ensure the project is completed safely and effectively.

Tom was professional and prompt from the start , his knowledge filled me with confidence and I was not disappointed. He and his father repaired areas of particular wear and tear and sanded all floors back then varnished them to a beautiful finish. The floors look amazing and worth every reasonable penny, thanks again for a great job Lads! Tom will also keep you entertained with his singing while he works! 🤣
