To lay a church floor we would do the following:
1. Measure the floor space of the church: This determines the amount of wood needed for the project.
2. Choose the wood: We can send you samples of the wood you would like to use for the floor. Some popular options for church floors include oak, maple, and cherry.
3. Acclimate the wood: This allows the wood to acclimate to the church’s environment by leaving it in the space for a few days before installation.
4. Prepare the subfloor: We need to ensure the subfloor is clean, level, and free of any debris. We will do this so leave this to us!
5. Install the underlayer: Install a layer of underlayment over the subfloor to provide a smooth surface for the wood flooring.
6. Lay the wood flooring: Begin laying the wood flooring, starting at one end of the church and working your way to the otherside. Typically we use a nail gun to attach each board to the subfloor and adjacent boards.
7. Cut the wood: Measure and cut boards as necessary to fit the edges and corners of the room.
8. Finish the floor: Sand the floor to remove any roughness or bumps. Stain or seal the wood as desired.
9. Allow time to dry: Allow the stain or sealant to dry completely before walking on the floor.
10. Finish with trim: Finish the edges of the floor with trim, such as baseboards, to complete the project.
It’s important to note that laying a wooden church floor can be a complex and labour-intensive process. So we advise not to cut-corners and use reputable companies like us who have been laying flooring for churches for over 20 years.
